The velvet interior trend for autumn 2019
Velvet is the dreamiest material for this time of year when all you need is some comforting guidance into the season ahead. It instantly gives a glamourous oomph and contemporary edge to brighten the longer evenings while the plush material makes even the comfiest sofa squishier!
Now that we’re starting to spend more time at home (relaxing in front of Bake Off) rather than spending evenings in the garden, crafting your living space into the cosiest experience possible is top of the list and velvet is the perfect way to achieve that with pure style.
Plus, unlike any velvet clothing in your wardrobe, there’s no need to vacuum pack away your sofa away when the warm weather rolls around again. These delights are an all year must-have!
Here’s how you can make the most of this season’s hottest trend.
Feeling the blues
Forget pastel spring blues, our Cobalt Smart Velvet’s rich, deep-sea tones gives a whole new dimension, shown here on our brand new Albie sofa. “Fluting looks especially spectacular in our velvets,” says our Chief Product Officer, Vanessa Hurley Perera. “The curves of the flutes really catch the light beautifully,” she explains, thanks to the light-reflecting nature that helps make velvet so eye-catching.
It also means that the furniture can stand up to an equally strong wall colour, such as an emerald green, which creates an overall jewellery-box palette that makes sitting down feel like even more of a treat!
The combination of softly tactile velvet and mood-boosting blue is guaranteed to lift your spirits and leave you feeling relaxed and inspired.
A rosy outlook
Cosy and inviting, velvet helps to warm up a neutral space. You can always enhance this effect by choosing a material in the red/orange end of the spectrum, as we have above, which contrasts the largely cool tones of the surrounding area to transform the room into a friendly and welcoming zone.
Here, our Dusty Rose fabric, the epitome of blazing autumnal tones, acts as if it was a roaring fire to make the sofa the heart and soul of the room. It’s the perfect match for our soft and springy Teddy sofa and falling onto this at the end of a long day gives you the same comforting feeling as a wrapping yourself in a new season coat.
Green with envy
From the catwalk to your living room, olive has been making a huge impact this autumn.
The mellow cousin of bright emerald and leafy hues, our Olive Cotton Matt Velvet is perfect for transitional seasons (or any season for that matter), because it pairs so well with light neutrals for a bright and fresh feel or with wood textures and burnt oranges when you feel like cosying up and hunkering down.
It’s ideal for contemporary shapes, like our Costello, to bring a splash of colour to minimal, Scandi-inspired spaces. Plus, it pairs well with a houseplant (or fourteen) which is a tick in our book!
