Introducing our latest collaboration: Erica Davies
There’s nothing that Erica Davies, the Queen of Cool and Chic Style, can’t turn her crafty hand to. From her career as a fashion journalist, to creating the lifestyle hub The Edited as well as her own expertly curated Instagram feed (that gives us major #InteriorEnvy), Davies has added fabric designer to her growing list of talents.
Erica has designed two excitingly wild prints exclusively for sofa.com, Jungle Cat and Wild Thing and we can’t get enough of them! Each is available in two brand new colourways, a beautiful blush shade called Pink Elephant and Hippo, a cool grey-blue. We’re celebrating the launch of Davies’ collection by sitting down with the creative doyenne herself to find out the inspiration behind her new range of textiles.
Have you always had an interest in interiors? Or is this something that has developed over time?
“I have always had an interest in interiors – it’s my passion project. I used to imagine how I would decorate my future flat through the pages of my mum’s interior design catalogues.”
Would you say that the lines between fashion and interior style are crossing over more and more?
“Absolutely. There is a very fine thread linking the two worlds and I always think putting together an outfit is very much like putting together a room scheme, both are very similar. I love colour, print and pattern and I am not afraid to mix them all up.”
What made you feel like sofa.com was the right fit for a collaboration?
“I loved the process of creating my own fabrics from scratch and I LOVE the idea that people are able to use my designs to cover their choice of furniture from sofa.com. The scope and range of possibilities! How will people use it, what will they cover?! I can’t wait to see.”
What is your inspiration behind the fabric designs?
“I knew I wanted to create my take on an animal print – but a versatile, slightly abstract version of a print that would appeal to a wide customer range. The dark blue colour means it will mix well with existing furniture pieces, so for example if you had a navy sofa, it would look amazing on a foot-stool. I have ordered it for my bed!
The other fabric is a re-working of a vintage floral pattern we discovered in an old painting – with the same abstract feel. It almost feels like an animal print, but it isn’t! I wanted to keep the fabric colours simple, so stayed true to an inky blue, blush pink and grey palette.
I just want to create designs that will bring fun to a space. I believe your home should represent your personality.”
Which sofa.com designs best suit each fabric?
“I love all the sofas, but I adore the Jungle Cat fabric in Hippo on the Bluebell sofa. Also try out the Jungle Cat in Pink Elephant on the Audrey bed! I am going to match my bed with a Button Blanket Box in Wild Thing in Pink Elephant.”
How would you recommend styling these fabrics in a room?
“The fabrics make a statement, but they mix really well with neutrals too. A combination of the fabric with plain navy, or plain blush pink, mixed with textured prints in the same colour combination would look amazing.”
