At Home With… Pearl Lowe - ASTIAZHMOBILYA

For the latest in our “At Home With” series, we got comfy on the sofa with Pearl Lowe, singer turned designer and all round style icon. Pearl lives in gorgeous rural Somerset, along with her husband and their three children, in a stunning Georgian property that truly encapsulates Pearl’s style.

Putting a spotlight on the deep connection between fashion and interior design, Pearl’s later career stemmed from her lifelong love of vintage fashion, which led to the release of her very own brand of vintage-inspired bespoke dresses. Having made the great escape from London to idyllic Frome, Pearl then honed her design skills and creative flair even further by turning her attention to interiors and transforming client’s homes into enchanting, dream spaces.

“Fashion makes me feel good on the outside and interiors make me feel good on the inside. I have always had a bit of a love affair with both.”

Read on to have a sneak peek around Pearl Lowe’s whimsical Somerset home and discover her top tips for designing interiors that make your heart sing…

How would you describe your home style?

Rock-n-roll, floral & romantic! I don’t tend to take any notice of trends. I have – and always will – love a French antique, romantic feel, that sometimes will be in fashion and sometimes it will be unfashionable. I love fairy lights, feathers, fringe lamps, velvet curtains, cashmere blankets and French linen sheets – it’s what makes my heart sing!

You have our Bluebell corner sofa pride of place in your living room. What drew you to this design?

I have admired the Bluebell sofa for years. It reminds me of the antique Howard & Sons sofas, and it’s really comfortable too. The problem with buying antique sofas is that they aren’t always comfortable! I love the exclusive Biba prints – especially the leopard print – which adds just the right touch of rock ‘n’ roll to the room. To style the space, I have introduced some pretty William Morris cushions with pretty blankets from The Natural Blanket company and some fringe lamps.

My dogs, Doris and Angie, also have a leopard print pet bed from sofa.com – they spend most of the day in the Cecil bed, they love it so much!

How do you approach designing a room?

For me, the three most important things in interior design are antiques, light and comfort. I always take in the age and the surroundings of the property and there will always be a theme running through the house. When I decorated our London house, it was white everywhere with flashes of colour and our Somerset home is more eclectic and full of patterns and prints.

What is your favourite room in your house?

I love our kitchen, it’s the hub of the house – it’s where we all sit around and chat. At the moment, I have my daughter Betty doing her zoom lessons in there, my son Frankie drawing pictures for my husband’s new book, I am usually working in there and Danny is often cooking. It’s where all the action is!

How important is it for you to have a home that reflects your personality?

It’s so important to me – so much so, I am a bit of a nightmare travelling anywhere! I love my creature comforts and I love being at home surrounded by my pretty things. I’d much rather be at home than be in someone else’s decor.
