Our 2019 survey of sofa shoppers has uncovered the best and worst sofa shops, ranking dozens of big-name brands including Furniture Village, Harveys, Ikea, John Lewis and Sofa.com. Buying a sofa is a significant investment – on average, people we surveyed spent more than £1,100 on their sofas – so it’s worth taking the time to think carefully about the sofa you want before handing over your credit card. And it’s not just about the sofa itself. The best sofa shops offer a great range, excellent value for money and hitch-free delivery, so that you can feel confident about your purchase from selection to sitting in comfort. The best place to buy a sofa Whether you’re after a corner sofa, a sofa bed or something in between, we’ve surveyed thousands of people to find out which sofa shop is best to buy from. Most common causes of sofa damage If you’re in the market for a new sofa because yours is looking battered and broken, choose a new sofa that won’t easily fall prey to the most common sofa damage causes: sagging and pets. Consider the sofa filling as well as the colour, shape and fabric when buying your new sofa. Sagging cushions was the most commonly reported problem in our survey. If you want to minimise this, bear in mind that feather-filled and fibre-filled seat cushions will need regular plumping, while foam-filled cushions will provide the firmest support and give a more structured appearance. If you’ve got pets that like to attack your sofa with their teeth or claws, consider a durable woven fabric. Tough, tightly woven flat weave looks like cotton and is made by combining natural cotton with manufactured fibres to make it hard wearing.
