the River District is continuing to grow with the addition of a new furniture store — There’s No Place Like Home.

The business first opened back in 2001 when owner Abby Slayton bought a house but couldn’t find reasonable prices for home furnishings. She began purchasing items wholesale and soon discovered furniture being marked up as high as about 500%. This led to the opening of her own furniture store on Foch Street, promising lower prices and over 800 brands to choose from.

Seeing how quickly The River District was growing and the area’s need for a furniture store prompted Slayton to expand her company westward. The second location of her shop will be known as There’s No Place Like Home Two and is set to open at 4854 White Settlement Road, Ste. A, this spring.

The new store will be smaller than the original but in a prime location surrounded by new homes, high-rise condos, and restaurants, Slayton says. She expects foot traffic to be high and exposure to take care of itself.

Apart from lower prices, the shop will also have degreed interior designers available to help pick out furniture. The shop carries all types of furniture styles — from midcentury modern and contemporary to rustic and traditional. It also carries mattresses, accessories, artwork, and office décor.

“You can furnish your home any way you want to, and it doesn’t have to break the bank,” Slayton says. “Our prices are so much lower than the typical retailer, and we have a one-on-one service with designers that make the whole process easier.”
