House & Garden adds a graceful new sofa to its collection with Arlo & Jacob
graceful new sofa
Two years ago House & Garden launched its debut collection of furniture in collaboration with British makers Arlo & Jacob. We had a simple aim; to create stylish, affordable pieces inspired by shapes we see in the houses we feature – much loved classics, brought up to date, rethought and refined.
The designs were conceived by our Creative Director (Interiors) Gabby Deeming, who during her fifteen years styling the magazine’s decoration pages, has accrued an encyclopaedic knowledge of furniture and how to use it. The collections have been updated each season since their launch, and this autumn sees the addition of the gracious ‘Marple’ sofa. Named in homage to Agatha Christie’s genteel detective, the design is inspired by a formal drawing room sofa, but its deep seats are as comfortable as can be. Its pleated low sloping arms and stylish square castor legs make it an elegant addition to any living space. It comes in three sizes, from a compact two-seater, ideal for small spaces, to the generous ‘grande’ option.
The sofa appears here in the new Corduroy fabric, a modern take on a classic that comes in three colours, the mid-blue ‘Sky’ you can see on this version, plus the deep blue ‘Storm’ and the olive green ‘Forest’. You can of course also cover the sofa in any of Arlo & Jacob’s other beautiful fabrics (there are over 120 of them), but we particularly like this one – with its slight Seventies feel it still manages to look entirely modern, and it’s rather hard-wearing to boot. The Corduroy fabric is part of our House & Garden fabric collection, which also includes a selection of classic linens and weaves.
